In our never-ending search for a Friday rubric we can stick with, we’re going to rank five things, every Friday. We will attempt to stick to rankings of things that have some sort of connection to the news of that week, but we can’t guarantee anything. Want us to rank something? Put it in the responses, or email us at williamfeitch@yahoo.com.

Top Five Most Tortured College Football Fanbases

  1. Georgia
  2. Michigan
  3. Notre Dame
  4. Nebraska
  5. Oklahoma

Jane Campion movies

  1. The Piano (1993)
  2. The Power of the Dog (2021)
  3. Sweetie (1989)
  4. Holy Smoke! (1999)
  5. Bright Star (2009)
  6. In the Cut (2003)

All six of these movies are good, one is great, one is almost great. I wish Jane Campion had made more movies over the last 28 years.

Paul Verhoeven movies, starting in 1985 (when he made his first film outside The Netherlands)

  1. RoboCop (1987)
  2. Starship Troopers (1997)
  3. Elle (206)
  4. Black Book (2007)
  5. Total Recall (1990)
  6. Benedetta (2021)
  7. Basic Instinct (1992)
  8. Flesh and Blood (1985)
  9. Showgirls (1997)
  10. Hollow Man (2000)

Benedetta, which opens in theaters today, adds “nuns” to the Verhoeven aesthetic. It should perhaps not be surprising how snug the fit is.
