What Will You Do If Donald Trump Wins in 2024?

One of the most terrifying pieces of journalism I’ve ever read is Kathryn Schultz’s famous, Pulitzer Prize-winning “The Really Big One” in The New Yorker. The premise of the piece is simple: Some day, the Pacific Northwest is going to be leveled by an earthquake. It is a statistical certainty. It may be in 100 years. It may be next week. But it’s happening. The piece shook me to my very core when I read it back in July 2015: I haven’t been to Seattle since.

A month before that piece ran, former reality television star Donald Trump rode down an escalator in his own hotel and announced his candidacy for President. I wrote a piece that day for Bloomberg Politics titled “We Are All Donald Trump Now” that is depressingly prophetic, though not depressing, and not prophetic, enough.) The world has not been the same since that escalator ride. And, in the wake of that, now I think I’ve read the most terrifying piece of journalism since Schultz’s piece.
